A huge thanks to the entire community for making the SMFC Education Foundation's 2021 Readathon such a wonderful experience. SMFC students read for 339,964 minutes and raised over $105,000 which will benefit students throughout our district. These generous donations will help support the Music for Minors program, enhanced science curriculum, ELA/ELD material, and more. The Ed Foundation remains committed to supporting vital education programs for all of our students and seeks to be a faithful partner during distance learning while assisting with re-opening efforts.
Congratulations to our top student fundraisers and star readers at each of the 18 elementary schools in our school district!

Gilead continues to be our inspiration as innovators with a passion for creating the possible. Their active commitment to our learning community has established them as a pillar of excellence for our youth. We are so grateful to Gilead for their partnership and dedication to helping address funding gaps and unmet needs in our community.
Thermal scanners will be used to facilitate the hands free temperature screening necessary of all students and staff before entry into the school. They will be ordered immediately so they can be placed at school sites and District buildings in January. This technology will help ensure the health and safety of our staff, students, and families.
The funding for the three year Science Teacher on Special Assignment (ToSA) will have a lasting impact on science education in our District for years to come. This ToSA will provide consistent expertise for training elementary and middle school teachers, adapting curriculum for a hybrid of digital and in-person learning, and modifying processes and approaches to meet the needs of struggling students and widen our reach to all, regardless of location.
This grant launches our Project Inspiration pilot taking the SMFCEdFund into a new era in building educational opportunity for all students in our San Mateo-Foster City School District.
The $500,000 grant will allow us to address the health and safety issues caused by the pandemic as well as embark on a three year academic leadership initiative to strengthen science education for all 11,000 students in the District.
It is our hope that Gilead’s funding of this pilot program inspires confidence in other community leaders to follow their lead and join Project Inspiration.
We welcome all corporations, non-profits, foundations, and community partners of all sizes to join us in addressing equity and opportunity in our District through advancing academic leadership, health and safety, and Arts education. Together we can make Project Inspiration a reality for our students.
We rely on community donations to support programs like art, music, science, and technology for all our district students. This year, we have also purchased backpacks for our students in need so that they will have the necessary school supplies for at-home learning. Our suggested donation is $250 per family, but every dollar counts. We would love to see 100% participation at any donation level.
If you have donated already, thank you! If you haven’t, please consider doing so. Does your company match? It's a great way to increase the impact of your donation.
We are a volunteer board of parents and community members, and we would love to welcome creative, knowledgeable and dedicated parents and community members to help us. If you’re interested in helping with a fundraiser, working on a committee, being a school liaison, sharing your expertise (grant writing, social media, marketing) and/or becoming a board member, please contact us.
The San Mateo-Foster City Education Foundation believes every child deserves the best education possible. The Foundation is committed to reaching every child in the San Mateo-Foster City School District. A strong Education Foundation does more than just support the children in its care, it impacts the entire community. We are committed to reaching out to our greater community, raising awareness of the value of supporting local schools to those outside of our immediate parent base.
"Our 5th grade music program gives students the opportunity to make music come alive. Three of our students played their instruments in the Talent Show because they were so proud to share what they had learned. Then at the music performance all of our students continued playing their instruments well after it was over. It has become a passion for our students which has opened up so many doors."
"The additional Chromebooks in our school allow our students to have access to technology on a much more regular basis. Our students spend more time using math and science simulations, learning research skills, writing and peer editing their drafts and creating presentations."
The San Mateo-Foster City Education Foundation believes every child deserves the best education possible. For too long, State funding has been severely inadequate and has failed to provide our children with essential learning experiences.
The Foundation aims to fill this gap by funding a wide variety of education opportunities to help our diverse community of students achieve their full potential.
While your financial contributions directly benefit the programs that we fund, your support also aids our pursuit of corporate partnerships and foundation donations. The full support of our parent, teacher and staff communities demonstrates to business partners and organizations that their money funds programs that will be well-received and appreciated by the community.
Join us in making our community better and stronger for our kids. Our goal is to have 100% participation from our parent, teacher and staff communities.
The Education Foundation funds core programming in the Arts, Sports, Music and Wellness. This support is necessary to provide our students with the well rounded education they deserve.
Your investment helps our students realize the benefits of a strong school district. The more we grow, the more we can do for our children!
